Phonetically, the word for persimmon sounds like the word “shi” which also means matter, business and affair. When this word is combined with other auspicious words or symbols, it gives good wishes for an undertaking. For example “good luck in your affairs”, “contentment in affairs” and “good luck in a hundred business matters” (baishijili). This astonishing Persimmon with a Secret Ruyi scepter inside the fruit conveys the wish “shishiruyi” which translates to “easing your life and saving you from troubles”, or more colloquially “may all be smooth” or “may things become as you wish”. For this reason of dissolving obstacles, it is sometimes placed in areas that can dissolve disharmonious energy in the house. The persimmon with ruyi will ensure that all members of the household stay supportive of one another, and to prevent clashes and conflict from arising. Also an excellent cure for use within the office to maintain a productive and supportive environment between colleagues and workmates. The vanquishing of troubles by the “shishiruyi” ornament is key to having a smoothsailing year ahead where you can focus your energy on useful things, especially in your career and health. The persimmon is grown for its large juicy fruits and is sometimes called the ‘chinese fig’. It grows well on mountain slopes in northern China. The fruits are orange and shaped like beef tomatoes. The bright orange color makes it suitable as good luck decorations. It is often planted in palace gardens as it is said to have four virtues: long life; sheltering birds; giving shade and freedom from insect pests. Persimmon is easily identified by its bright yellow to orange gelatinous flesh. It can be round shape, plumpness, color, and sweetness that makes it auspicious. The persimmon is normally displayed in the home, as this ostensibly ensures that there will be happiness and smooth tidings in the household throughout the coming twelve months. It can also be offered to buddhas and deities, to signify offering gold to deities.

Besides a ruyi, the hidden compartment is filled with holy rollings of mantras:

The lotuses on the other hand is essentially used to signify joy, harmony, peace, purity and sincerity. The plate is consecrated with the mantra of Amitayus. Having great control over the cosmic world, this mantra increases one’s lifespan, acquires good fortune and wisdom, avoids untimely or accidental death, removes all negative karma, and accomplishes non-death or is reborn the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
